About This Call
Downtown Grand Junction Art on the Corner is a temporary outdoor public art exhibition seeking sculpture submissions. Artists may apply up to 3 times, with each application featuring one sculpture. Submissions must include 2-4 photographs taken from different angles and sculpture information including title, material, dimensions, weight, installation requirements, value, selling price, and artist statement.
Artwork selection criteria prioritize artistic excellence, timelessness, permanence, compatibility with the downtown area, and public safety. All sculptures must be original creations with structural and surface soundness, resistant to theft, vandalism, and weathering, and require minimal maintenance. Accepted artists receive a $1,000 honorarium and two nights of lodging for installation on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 7:00 a.m. The artwork will be on display for twelve months. Artists are responsible for all design, labor, materials, transportation, and removal expenses. All artwork must be available for sale; Art on the Corner retains a 25% commission on sales during the exhibit period or as a direct result of the exhibit.
Mounting requirements vary based on sculpture height. Sculptures under six feet must have a steel base plate attached with 1/4" steel pins or counter sunk machine screws (minimum 3 per sculpture). Free-standing sculptures six feet or taller must be bolted to the sidewalk with 1/2" bolts and have a minimum of three 5/8" mounting holes evenly spaced. The 2021 exhibit will be curated by Lee Borden, Executive Director of The Art Center. Artists will be notified of selection the week of August 16, 2021. Awards will be presented on Saturday, October 2, 2021.
