About This Call
Downtown Grand Junction Art on the Corner is a temporary public art sculpture exhibition. Artists may submit up to three applications, with each application representing one artwork accompanied by 3 to 6 images taken from different angles.
Artwork Selection Criteria: Submissions are evaluated based on artistic excellence, timelessness, permanence, compatibility with the downtown area and community, and public safety. All art must be original creations. Sculptures must have structural and surface soundness, be resistant to theft, vandalism, and weathering, and require minimal maintenance. Works should be compatible in style, scale, material, form, and content with their surroundings and have broad appeal to the general public.
Compensation and Details: All accepted artists receive a $1,000 honorarium and two nights of downtown lodging (Friday, October 5th and Saturday, October 6th, 2018). An Artist's Welcome Reception will be held on Friday, October 5th, 2018. The 2018 exhibit will be curated by Araan Schmidt, an Assistant Professor of Sculpture at Colorado Mesa University. Artists are responsible for all design, labor, materials, transportation, installation, and removal costs. Sculptures must be mounted according to specific requirements: sculptures under six feet tall require a steel base plate with minimum three 1/4" steel pins or counter sunk machine screws; sculptures six feet or taller must be bolted to the sidewalk with 1/2" bolts with minimum three 5/8" mounting holes. For specific installation questions, contact Tina at [email protected]. Applications must be submitted via CaFE at www.callforentry.org by midnight MST on Friday, August 17, 2018, and include sculpture information (title, material, size, weight, special installation requirements, value, selling price, and artist statement) along with required images.
