About This Call
BFA Broward in partnership with The Fort Lauderdale Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is seeking one or more artists to create art designs to wrap traffic control signal cabinets (utility boxes) within Downtown Fort Lauderdale. Designs may be in any medium, however they must be transferrable into a digital format to print on vinyl to wrap the boxes. The selected artist(s) will only be responsible for submitting the final artwork needed to wrap the boxes – the artist will not be responsible for coordinating the wrapping of the boxes.
The general theme for this series of box wraps is "Fort Lauderdale of the Future." All designs must be representative of Downtown FTL and contextually appropriate for each of the proposed locations. Up to three (3) artists will be shortlisted based on their body of work and will be paid a $200 stipend to submit a total of three (3) site specific artwork proposals. From these submissions the DDA will select one (1) or two (2) artists or artist teams for the entirety of the project, covering sixteen (16) box locations. The artists chosen to move forward will be required to produce the remaining thirteen (13) designs within an agreed upon schedule upon contract award.
Submissions must include a statement of interest, a detailed résumé noting artistic accomplishments and past projects, and a minimum of 5, maximum of 10 images of previous works with brief descriptions. All submissions must be from artists over the age of 18 who own all rights to the artwork submitted. Designs must be original artwork submitted as high-resolution digital images. The following content will not be considered: tobacco, alcohol, demeaning or disparaging words, profanity, unlawful goods or services, firearms, adult-oriented goods or services, violence, obscenity or nudity, endorsements, human reproduction/sexuality products and services, or unlawful conduct. Selection criteria include artistic quality, contextual appropriateness, ability to relate to multiple audiences, and ability to successfully translate original artwork to a digital file for print. Entry fee: $20.00. Total project budget: $8,000.
