About This Call
Art Encounters is a year-long outdoor sculpture exhibit showcasing sculptures in various media and styles displayed in highly visible areas throughout Douglas County, including Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree, Parker, and Roxborough. The program is designed to promote public interest in art, develop community pride, and draw visitors to retail and civic areas.
Artists may submit up to five existing, fully completed works with one application. Preference is given to larger sculptures over 36 inches in height. Each work requires one to three images from different perspectives (minimum 300 PPI resolution), with the base visible in at least one image. Artists must include a description of the installation process specific to each work submitted. Selected artists receive a $1,500 stipend payable after installation completion. Pedestals, ground mounts, and ready-mix will be supplied based on requirements submitted in the application.
Eligibility: Open to artists and artist teams over 18 years of age. All work must be complete, original in concept, and available for the program year. Expected installation is no later than May 23, 2026, with removal no later than May 31, 2027. Sculptures must remain installed for at least one year. Work must be able to withstand intense sun, snow, wind, temperature extremes, and weather fluctuations common in Colorado, require minimal to no maintenance, and be safe for public interaction of all ages. Duplicate works within a 60-mile radius of Douglas County will not be accepted. Twenty-four sculptures have been purchased since the program began in 2007.
