About This Call
The 2019-2020 Art Encounters Program is a public art exhibition accepting applications from artists and artist teams over 18 years of age. Artists may submit up to three existing, completed sculptures. Entries must have sculptures available from May 2019 through May 2020 and will be displayed in participating locations including Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Parker, and Roxborough.
Artists must submit one to two images from different perspectives per sculpture (up to six images total). All entries must include a description of the installation process specific to each sculpture. Sculptures must be original in concept, able to withstand Colorado's intense sun, snow, wind, and temperature extremes, and require minimal to no maintenance. Duplicate sculptures within a 60-mile radius of Douglas County will not be accepted. Any variety of materials may be incorporated, and sculptures may experience public interaction of all ages.
If selected, artists receive an $800 stipend payable after installation completion. All work must be for sale at the price submitted on the entry form and must remain on display throughout the program year. Artists have the opportunity to win two awards: People's Choice Award ($1,000, voted by the public) and Judge's Choice Award ($1,000, selected by a public art judge). At the end of the program year, each jurisdiction has first right to purchase a sculpture for permanent display. The jurisdiction retains the right to reproduce and distribute artwork images for promotion. Sculptures are covered by insurance paid for by the jurisdiction. The artist is responsible for delivering the work and providing written installation instructions; the jurisdiction covers installation costs at the site.
