About This Call
Douglas County Art Encounters is an outdoor public art program open to artists and artist teams over 18 years of age. Artists may submit up to three existing, completed sculptures. Each sculpture requires one to two images from different perspectives (up to six images total if submitting three sculptures). The base must be visible in images. All entries must include a description of the installation process specific to each sculpture.
Eligibility requirements include that all work must be original in concept and not the product of instructional guidance. Sculptures must be able to withstand intense sun, snow, wind, temperature extremes, and weather fluctuations common in Colorado, and require minimal to no maintenance. Duplicate sculptures within a 60-mile radius of Douglas County will not be accepted. Work may be placed in any of the participating locations: Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree, Parker, and Roxborough. Artists agree that their work may experience public interaction of all ages.
If selected, artists receive an $800 stipend payable after installation completion. All work must be for sale at the submitted price and remain on display throughout the program year. Artists have the opportunity to win two awards: People's Choice Award ($1,000, based on public voting) and Judge's Choice Award ($1,000, selected by a public art professional). At the end of the program year, each jurisdiction has first right to purchase a sculpture for permanent display. The artist retains copyright and is responsible for delivering the artwork and coordinating installation with the jurisdiction. Pedestals, ground mounts, and ready mix are supplied based on requirements submitted in the entry.
