Douglas County Art Encounters 2017-2018

Douglas County Art Encounters is a public art program featuring both traditional and cutting-edge sculptures displayed throughout Douglas County, Colorado, including the communities of Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree, Parker, and Roxborough.

Selected artists receive an $800 stipend payable after installation completion. Additional awards include a $1,000 Judge's Award given after a selected judge evaluates all installed pieces, and a $1,000 People's Choice Award given at the end of the display period following public voting. Artists have the opportunity to promote and sell their work, though artwork that is sold must remain on display for the duration of the show.

A Public Art Advisory Committee with representatives from throughout Douglas County selects artwork from submitted applications. Applicants must submit at least two images per sculpture with completed fields including dimensions, medium, and year completed. Descriptions must include: a description of the sculpture, installation requirements and equipment needs, maintenance requirements, whether a base is included, and suggested installation dimensions. Indoor art will not be accepted. The artwork submitted in the application must match exactly what is delivered for installation in size, color, surface treatment, mounting, medium, pose, and edition. The 2017-2018 timeline includes installation in May/June 2017 and judge evaluation in June/July 2017.
