About This Call
Douglas County Art Encounters is a public art program that selects sculptures for display throughout Douglas County, Colorado, including the communities of Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree, and Parker. The program promotes interest and appreciation for public art while developing community pride and drawing visitors to civic areas.
Selected artists receive an $800 stipend payable after installation completion. Additional awards include a $1,000 People's Choice honorarium awarded after public voting and a $1,000 Judge's Award given after a selected judge evaluates all installed pieces. Artists have the opportunity to promote and sell their work during the display period. Any artwork sold must remain on display for the duration of the show. Selected public art is strategically placed in high-traffic areas for maximum exposure, and the program is marketed throughout Douglas County and beyond.
A Public Art Advisory Committee with representatives from throughout Douglas County selects artwork from submitted applications. The Committee functions under the direction of the Douglas County Cultural Council and determines which art is displayed at each jurisdiction's location. Artists must submit two images per sculpture with completed fields including dimensions, medium, and year completed. Descriptions must include a sculpture description, installation requirements and equipment needs, maintenance requirements, whether a base is included, and suggested installation dimensions. Eligibility is open to national applicants. Selected artists will receive contracts and must sign and return them by specified dates or risk dismissal from the exhibition.
