Douglas County Art Encounters 2011-2012

Art Encounters is a year-long outdoor sculpture exhibit showcasing sculptures in various media and styles displayed in highly visible areas in Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree, and Parker, Colorado. The project is designed to promote public interest in art, develop community pride, and draw visitors to retail and civic areas.

Artists must be over 18 years of age and may submit up to three entries of existing, completed work. All work must be original in concept and capable of sustaining extreme weather and public interaction with minimal or no maintenance. Sculptures may incorporate any variety of materials. Artists must submit two high-resolution images from different perspectives per entry (jpeg at 300 dpi or higher), with the base visible. All work must be for sale and remain the same price throughout the show. Selected artists will receive a $500 stipend payable after installation completion. The jurisdiction will cover insurance costs and installation expenses at the site. Artists are responsible for delivery of their work and providing written installation and maintenance instructions.

A Public Art Advisory Committee with representatives from throughout Douglas County selects artwork from submitted applications. The Committee determines which pieces are displayed in each jurisdiction. Selected artists will be notified in early March 2011, with installation scheduled for May/June 2011. The displayed work will be identified with the artist name, title of piece, year, and the Art Encounters logo. At the end of the one-year loan program, each jurisdiction has first right to purchase a sculpture for permanent display.
