Dough

Dough is a juried exhibition exploring dough as material, metaphor, and cultural touchstone. The exhibition invites artists to consider dough in its many forms—from the promise of bread and comfort to its slang association with money and economic inequality. Submissions may address bread sharing and cultural traditions, the sensory experience of dough, or broader questions about scarcity, abundance, and systemic inequality. The exhibition seeks work in all media, including 2D, 3D, and video.

Hera Gallery seeks work in all media, 2D, 3D, and video. 3D work is limited to 100 lbs and must fit through a 5'10" x 6'8" door. 2D work must also fit through the same door. Entry fee is $35. Artists may submit up to 5 images, 5 audio files, and/or 5 video files (minimum 1 total sample required). The juror is Catherine M. Piccoli, a food historian, writer, and curator whose work focuses on the intersection of food, culture, memory, and place.

Accepted artists will be notified by September 9, 2021. The exhibition runs October 16–November 13, 2021. Artwork must be delivered to the gallery by October 9, 2021. Artists are responsible for all return shipping costs and must provide prepaid return shipping labels. Hera Gallery retains a 35% sales commission. Artists are responsible for their own insurance. Hera Gallery reserves the right to photograph work for publicity and use artist names, likenesses, and artwork in exhibition materials.
