About This Call

The Dorothy Antoinette LaSelle Foundation has established the Dorothy Antoinette LaSelle Travel Fellowship to recognize the impact that travel can have on an artist's career. In the inaugural year for the fellowship in fall 2024, two awards of $5,000 each will be distributed to artists working and residing in the state of Texas, enabling recipients to complete a research trip to further their artistic practice. The fellowship is named after Dorothy Antoinette "Toni" LaSelle, a pioneer of Modernism in Texas who traveled to Europe in 1927-28 after completing her MA at University of Chicago.

The fellowship is open to practicing visual artists with a BA/BFA or MA/MFA who have held Texas residence for at least one year and have at least 3 solo or group exhibitions in the past 3 years. There is no application fee. Applicants must submit a single PDF document (2MB or less) containing image thumbnails with identifying information, artist CV, reference contact list with 2 references, a project proposal of 200 words or less describing why the fellowship would be important to their practice and their travel goals, and a copy of valid photo ID. The application deadline is August 31, 2024 at 11:59 PM MDT. Awardees will be notified by November 1, 2024. The guest juror is Dr. Erika Doss, Distinguished Professor in the Edith O'Donnell Institute of Art History at the University of Texas at Dallas, who specializes in American art history, popular culture, and public culture of the 20th and 21st centuries.
