About This Call
The Juried Visual Art Exhibition showcases exceptional new art as one of the pillars of the Festival's visual arts offerings. The exhibition is hosted inside the Trust Arts Education Center (James E. Rohr Building) at 805-807 Liberty Avenue in the Cultural District during the Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival, June 7–16, 2019. The exhibition welcomes thousands of visitors over ten days and artworks may be featured in Festival press coverage or purchased by attendees. Select artists may be recruited to exhibit in solo and group shows through the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust's gallery system and other galleries citywide. All accepted artists are invited to a private preview. There is no application fee and admission is free and open to the public.
The 2019 theme is "Remember Me," honoring the Festival's 60th anniversary. Artists of all visual disciplines are invited to submit work dealing with concepts of memory and/or memorializing, examining the artist's role in creating identity and narrative on personal, social, or cultural levels. Artists must reside within 150 miles of Pittsburgh and may submit up to 3 individual pieces. All work must be original, created by the applicant, relate to the theme, not have been previously exhibited in Pittsburgh, and have been completed within the past 2 years. Video and sound components must be intended for gallery display; documented performances are ineligible. All work must be ready to hang, exhibit, or install during scheduled hours. Installation-based works must be installed by the artist within two 8-hour work days. All accepted artwork must be available for display for the full duration of the Festival, June 7–16, 2019.
Awards include Best in Show ($2,500), Juror's Choice ($500, 3 total awards), and People's Choice ($500). Artists will be notified of application status in March. Selected artists must sign and return the exhibition agreement by April 1, 2019. All accepted artwork must be delivered in person and picked up at 805-807 Liberty Avenue per the acceptance letter. Shipments cannot be received directly. Works selected for exhibition may be offered for sale at the artist's discretion; the Festival receives a 20% commission on all sales. If work is selected, a signed application and agreement constitute a commitment to exhibit. Cancellations must be received in writing before March 31, 2019. Works selected for display may not be removed until the Festival's conclusion. Failure to comply with the cancellation policy may result in denial from future Trust festivals.
