About This Call

Art In Public Places Sculpture Exhibition (AIPP) is open to artists 18 years of age or older residing in the United States. Sculptors may enter up to three completed artworks. All works must have been created in the last five years and not previously exhibited in AIPP Knoxville. Artists must submit 1-3 views of each sculpture (9 photographs total) and include a current artist statement addressing the sculpture's footing method, installation requirements, and overall dimensions. The entry fee is $35 per application.

Work must be suitable for outdoor installation and capable of withstanding adverse weather conditions, high traffic environments, and require limited to no maintenance. Sculptures must be installation ready and will be reviewed by Dogwood Arts staff and City of Knoxville officials upon arrival. Artists are responsible for shipping and delivering sculptures to and from the installation site and for timely installation/removal within scheduled dates. Installation dates are March 10-18, 2019 (weekends), with the exhibition running April 1, 2019 through March 9, 2020. Removal dates are March 9-17, 2020. Dogwood Arts will provide equipment and expert hands-on assistance, but artists must oversee and participate in the installation/removal process and bring required tools and hardware.

Awards include $3,000 for Best of Show, $2,000 for 2nd Place, $1,000 for 3rd Place, $1,000 for People's Choice Award, and $500 for two Honorable Mention Awards. All finalists whose works are installed will receive an Artist Stipend of $2,000 per sculpture ($1,000 upon delivery and $1,000 upon removal). Artists are encouraged to sell their sculptures during the exhibition; the commission split is 70% to the artist and 30% to Dogwood Arts. Copyright remains with the artist.
