About This Call

The Visual Arts Committee, a division of the Pinedale Fine Arts Council, seeks qualifications from professional artists/artist teams for a permanent sculpture installation located on town property adjacent to The Learning Center in Pinedale, Wyoming. The budget is $12,000. Application Deadline: February 1, 2013.

Ex|Site:3D is a permanent commissioned site-specific sculpture installation that will be conceptually developed as part of a 5-day residency at The Learning Center Preschool. The In:Site|Ex:Site program, under direction of the Pinedale Visual Arts Committee in partnership with The Learning Center Preschool and the Town of Pinedale, seeks to commission a public sculptural artwork that reflects and is inspired by Pinedale's natural environment and young people's place within it. The piece should recognize and use natural resources as an asset, show collaboration between learning and diversity in the natural environment. The artist will work with Learning Center staff during a 5-day residency (must take place before May 31, 2013) to build the residency and activities. During the residency, the artist will develop a sculpture proposal inspired by experiences with the children and residency themes. The sculpture is to be installed no later than September 30, 2013.

The artwork should conceptually relate to the mission and philosophy of The Learning Center Preschool, particularly its Outdoor Classroom component. The location is on the southwest corner adjacent to the Learning Center classroom, across the street from the town park and children's fishing pond. The artwork should be of adequate scale and presence to make an impact while staying appropriate with the environment, integrate or address natural elements, and engage all ages while making connections to the natural environment. All materials must be appropriate to their purpose, compatible with the environment, durable, permanent, and free of precious or fragile materials. Due to Pinedale's extreme climate and long cold winters, materials must be chosen wisely and be suitable for outdoor settings with children, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic, reasonably vandal-resistant, easily maintained, and meet all public safety and accessibility requirements. Sustainable materials and technology, including recycled, reclaimed, or re-purposed materials, are encouraged.

Entry fee: $25.00. Work sample requirements: 1-6 images.
