Divergent Synthesis

Divergent Synthesis is a juried group exhibition in partnership with The Korean Cultural Center, Los Angeles. The exhibition takes place May 2 through May 31, 2024 at The Korean Cultural Center, 5505 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles. LAUNCH invites all Southern California visual artists to submit work for this open call competition. At least 2 artists will be selected for a 2-person exhibition at LAUNCH Gallery in Los Angeles. Historically, multiple artists from this open call have been selected to exhibit at the gallery.

The exhibition brings together artists from across Southern California whose practices meld an array of experiences, backgrounds, influences, media, materials and/or methods to create new and cohesive pieces of art. All fine arts visual media will be considered. 2D work must be no larger than 48" x 48" and must be wired (no sawtooth hangers). 3D work must be no larger than 60"H x 36" x 36" and weigh less than 50 lbs. Artworks shown in prior juried exhibitions at LAUNCH are not eligible.

Entry fee is $24 for a minimum of 3 work samples (images and/or video). Up to 7 additional images may be submitted for $5 per image, for a maximum of 10 total samples. Minimum 3 total samples required; up to 10 images and 3 videos accepted. Entry deadline is April 7, 2024 at 10:59 pm PST. Accepted artists will be notified by April 17, 2024. Shipped work must be received by April 25. The opening reception is Thursday, May 2, 2024. Artists are responsible for all shipping costs and must include prepaid return shipping labels. LAUNCH will retain a 40% commission on any works sold. Eligibility is open to Southern California resident artists age 18 and older from the northern boundary of San Luis Obispo/Kern/San Bernardino to Southern counties of San Diego/Imperial and all counties in between. Jurors are Peter Frank, Associate Editor for Visual Art Source and former Senior Curator at the Riverside Art Museum, and Dr. Virginia Moon, Associate Curator of Korean Art at LACMA.
