About This Call
The City of El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Department Public Art Program seeks to commission a professional artist or artist team to design, fabricate and install site-specific artwork at the District 1 Neighborhood Water Park in West El Paso. The park will be a 34,000 to 47,000 square foot facility featuring a lap pool with climbing wall, current channel, spray area, water slides, play structure, family pool with zero depth entry, Baja area, concession/kitchen area, bathhouse, shaded and decked areas, DJ booth, administration area, landscaping, parking, and site lighting. The park will offer rental cabanas and nighttime programming with a "Tropical" theme.
The total project budget is $140,000 to include design, fabrication, and installation. This all-inclusive budget must cover design fees, travel expenses, all materials and fabrication costs, insurance, engineering expenses, shipping and transportation to the site, and installation costs. Materials selected must be appropriate for a high-use environment, weather resistant and low maintenance.
Artists must submit work samples (1-6 images, 0-5 audio files, and 0-5 video files) along with an artist statement, previous work examples, resume and letter of interest. Applications will be reviewed by an Artist Selection Panel. The selected artist will collaborate with the City and stakeholders to generate artwork proposals, conduct site research, prepare presentations, create construction documents, and oversee fabrication and installation. The anticipated schedule includes Artist Selection Panel Review on October 2, Public Art Committee Review on October 9, and notification to the selected artist on October 10. Eligibility is open to national applicants.
