About This Call
The City of Greeley is seeking one artist to design a vinyl art wrap for the Discovery Bay pool slide 'skirt' enclosure. The selected artist will receive $2,100 compensation for the design purchase, time for requested revisions, and submission of a high-resolution digital image. The city will contract with a professional sign company to print and install the vinyl wrap at city cost.
Discovery Bay Waterpark opened in 2007 with an archeological dig site theme. The granite wall art depicts the history of Northern Colorado from the Paleolithic era. The waterpark features a custom-designed dinosaur play structure (the only one of its kind in the nation), splash pad, zero depth area, lazy river, pool, and 243-foot slide. Proposals should feature design elements aligned with a paleolithic theme that is historically accurate for this area and appealing to young children, teens, and adults. The design must be picture-based (not word-based), visually active, and cover eight sides of the slide skirt enclosure. Artwork cannot include logos, copyrighted or trademarked images, or function as signage or advertisement.
Artists may submit up to three different color designs (no black and white) as finished designs or full-color thumbnail sketches. The selected artist will work remotely with the selection committee to develop and adapt the design to fit the metal panel dimensions. Final designs must be submitted as vector .eps files or .pdf with minimum 150 dpi resolution. The vinyl wraps will be CMYK printed. The artist must sign a contract and W-9 form; payment is requested after final design approval, allowing 3-4 weeks for processing. The city retains all rights to the final design layout and the right to publicly display and reproduce the project. The city retains authority to repair, replace, or destroy the image at any time. Average vinyl wrap life expectancy is 3-5 years. All artists, including individuals and groups of professional and emerging artists, are encouraged to apply. Previous public art experience is not required. Jury dates: 6/28/23 - 7/17/24.
