About This Call
Digitalia is a national juried exhibition of digitally-created art, including digital painting, computer-based illustration, digitally manipulated photography, fractals and algorithmic imagery, digital manipulations of traditionally-created art, digital montages and collages, mixed media with digital elements, artwork created with mobile devices and apps, and interactive installations. The exhibition seeks work that complicates perceived boundaries between "art" and "technology." Both 2-D and 3-D artworks as well as small installations are welcome, provided they can be accommodated in the intimate galleries of a landmark 1840's Greek Revival townhouse located in Poughkeepsie, New York, two hours north of New York City.
Eligibility is open to all artists residing in the United States and age 18 or older. All work submitted must be original in design, concept and media, and must have been completed within the last three years. Artwork may not exceed 40 inches in each dimension. For 2-dimensional work, pieces cannot exceed 40 inches along any side, including the frame if applicable, and must be ready to hang with all necessary hardware. Framed work must use plastic or Plexiglass; frames with glass will not be accepted. For 3-dimensional work, installation art, sculpture and other works must fit within a parameter of 72 inches high by 30 inches wide by 30 inches deep and cannot be hung or installed from the ceiling. Artists should be prepared to provide their own display technologies and user interfaces, including flat screen monitors, keyboard, speakers or projectors.
The entry fee is $35.00 plus a $5.00 media fee. Submissions must include a minimum of 3 work samples and a maximum of 8 total samples (up to 8 images and up to 6 videos). The juror is Bruce Wands, Chair Emeritus of the MFA Computer Art Department at the School of Visual Arts, New York. Cash juror's prizes are awarded at the opening reception, with amounts determined by the number of entries. Three cash prizes and two honorary awards are selected by the juror. Selected works will be displayed on the Barrett Art Center website after the opening, and each selected artist who attends the opening reception will have a brief opportunity to discuss their work.
