Dia de los Muertos: Long Live the Artists!

The Bath House Cultural Center will present the 30th Annual Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) art exhibition, October 15-November 12, 2016. This show features local, regional, and international artists working in traditional and contemporary styles to celebrate, explore, and honor people, things and ideas that have "passed on."

The 2016 exhibition theme is "A Tribute to Artists." In celebration of the Bath House Cultural Center's 35th anniversary and the 30th anniversary of this annual exhibition, artists are invited to create artwork that honors artists of all disciplines (visual, theater, music, literary, etc.) who have passed on. Submitted entries should adhere to the celebratory aspects commonly associated with the Day of the Dead tradition, though some works may include solemn themes.

Art in all media will be considered. All two-dimensional art must be properly wired and suitable for hanging. Altar installations must be pre-approved by the curator. Because of insurance restrictions, the use of irreplaceable items in altars is discouraged. Candles can be used for display only and must not be lit. Perishable items such as food and flowers are discouraged. Artists wishing to exhibit multi-media/electronic installations must furnish their own equipment. Entries that have been exhibited in previous Día de los Muertos exhibitions at the Bath House will not be accepted. Artists may submit a maximum of two works of art. No entry fee is required. Selection notification will be posted on the Bath House Cultural Center's online News Center at http://www.bathhousemedia.com/ after 6 PM on Friday, September 23, 2016. Delivery of accepted artwork is Tuesday, October 4, 2016 (4-7 PM). Reception is Sunday, October 16, 2016 (5-7 PM). Artwork pickup is Tuesday, November 15, 2016 (3-7 PM).
