About This Call
Dia de los Muertos is a juried exhibition hosted by the Peoria Art Guild, located at 203 Harrison Street, Peoria, Illinois. The event takes place on November 1, 2013. This is a first-year event accepting a wide range of genres including sculpture, mixed media, metal, oil, acrylic, watercolor, digital, photography, glass, woodcraft, found object, and film—contemporary to traditional, abstract interpretations to literal. Preference will be given to works that capture beauty, vibrancy, and celebration in memory of those who have passed on.
Artists may submit up to 2 original works of art created after December 31, 2009. The non-refundable entry fee is $40 per application (covering up to 2 images); Peoria Art Guild members receive a $10 rebate. All works must be for sale. Three-dimensional works are limited to 2x2x2 feet in dimension. Submissions must be in JPG format. The submission deadline is August 13, 2013, with acceptance notification by August 26, 2013. Artwork shipment deadline is October 15, 2013. Artists are responsible for all shipping arrangements and costs. The Guild assumes no responsibility for damages during shipping. Artists must provide their own insurance.
Awards include $1,500 in cash prizes: $1,000 for best in show, $500 for second place, and $300 for third place. Honorable mentions and a people's choice award will also be given (no monetary awards for these). The judge is Robert Sill, Assistant Director of Art at the Illinois State Museum. All accepted works must be gallery ready when brought to the event facility. The gallery operates with a 30/70 commission split on sales. Accepted artists receive one complimentary event entry plus one guest pass.
