About This Call
The Dexter Art Gardens is an annual outdoor artwork exhibition sponsored by the Dexter Arts, Culture & Heritage Committee and the City of Dexter. Four temporary outdoor artworks will be juried and placed on display with the City's permanent collection for one year, from June 2021 to May 2022. Selected pieces will be installed on concrete pads in highly trafficked locations in historic Dexter, Michigan.
The call is open to all artists 18 years of age and older. Artists may submit up to three original three-dimensional artworks suitable in scale and materials for public outdoor display. Work sample requirements include a minimum of 1 and maximum of 5 images. Each selected artist will receive a $900 stipend to be paid after successful installation. Artwork will be exhibited at high visibility sites in the heart of Dexter with a plaque displaying the artist's name, artwork title, and price. The City of Dexter will publish information about the artists and artworks on its website and Facebook page, and will distribute print brochures online and in print throughout the year to inspire self-guided walking tours. Brochures will be distributed during the annual Dexter Daze Festival and Paint Dexter Plein Air Festival (August 2021, if permitted).
Applications must be complete in full and may be submitted through CaFE, in hard copy to the City of Dexter, 8123 Main St., 2nd Floor, Dexter, MI 48130, or via email to [email protected] with "Dexter Art Gardens" in the subject line. Application period opens January 29, 2021. Deadline for submissions is February 26, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Artist notification of selection will occur the week of March 30, 2021. Artwork installation is scheduled for June 1-15, 2021. Artwork removal appointments will be made between May 15-31, 2022.
