Dexter Art Gardens 2019

The Dexter Art Gardens is an annual outdoor artwork exhibition sponsored by the Dexter Arts, Culture & Heritage Committee and the City of Dexter. Three temporary outdoor artworks will be juried and placed on display with the City's permanent collection for one year from June 2019 to May 2020. The selected pieces will be installed on concrete pads in highly trafficked locations in historic Dexter, Michigan.

Artwork must be three-dimensional, original, created by the artist, and suitable in scale and materials for public outdoor display for 12 months in Michigan weather. Only freestanding artwork without electrical or special lighting requirements will be considered. Artwork must be durable in design and material to withstand the Michigan climate and public display, safe for public interaction, and available for sale during the exhibition. Artists may submit up to three original artworks for consideration. Work sample requirements: minimum 3 images, maximum 10 images.

Each selected artist will receive an $800 stipend paid after successful installation. Artwork will be exhibited at high visibility sites in the heart of Dexter with a plaque displaying the artist's name, artwork title, and price. The City of Dexter will conduct a yearlong promotional campaign including print brochures distributed at the Dexter Daze Festival and Paint Dexter Plein Air Festival, as well as online publication on the City's website and Facebook page. If artwork is sold during the exhibition, the artist receives 70% of the sales price after expenses and Michigan sales tax (6%) are paid; the City receives 30%. Artist is responsible for shipping, delivery, and de-installation costs. Installation appointments will be scheduled between June 1-15, 2019, and de-installation between May 15-31, 2020. Entries will be critiqued on artistic merit, originality, technical quality, and durability. Deadline for submissions: March 27, 2019.
