About This Call
The Denver Arts & Venues Public Art program and the Denver Museum of Nature & Science seek to commission a Colorado artist or team of artists to create a site-specific art installation for the exterior of the Morgridge Family Exploration Center, a 126,000-square-foot addition on the south side of the existing museum building in City Park.
The artwork should be sited on the circular mulch area near the southeast corner of the building and may consist of a stand-alone artwork or multiple artworks. The selection panel is open to two-dimensional and/or three-dimensional artwork in all media, materials and formats, including interactive art, environmental art, eco-art, sound art and landscape art. However, the artwork cannot utilize liquids of any kind or require irrigation systems, as the site is located above a state-of-the-art collections facility. The artwork should be interactive, allowing community members to engage with it; have a focus on science and nature without requiring interpretive signage; reflect the cultural diversity of the region; be relevant to school children preschool through grade 12; and be sensitive to sustainability and conservation issues. All artwork must be fabricated of highly durable, low-maintenance materials.
Eligibility is limited to artists residing in Colorado. Applicants must submit six digital images, a résumé, and a statement of interest (no longer than 2,000 characters) via www.callforentry.org. Up to five semifinalists will be selected for interviews. If a formal proposal is requested, the artist will receive a $500 honorarium to prepare and present the proposal in person. The budget for this commission is approximately $85,000. Deadline: June 4, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
