About This Call
Denver International Airport and the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs seek to commission a Colorado artist, architect, landscape architect, industrial design artist or engineer, or a combined team of Colorado individuals in these disciplines, for a site-specific public art commission at Denver International Airport. Students currently enrolled in these disciplines are encouraged to apply. Previous experience working in public spaces is not necessary, but candidates cannot have previous public art commissions over $25,000.
The program is designed to encourage innovative public art projects by emerging artists living or working in Colorado. Artists will make proposals, develop work in relation to aviation conditions, and present artwork for public space at the airport. Successful projects do not need an aviation theme but should be mindful of an aviation environment. Selected candidates will be chosen by a panel of artists, architects, engineers, and curators, and will be commissioned to develop formal proposals. Three candidates will be selected to realize their concepts for 2008. Successful candidates will receive $30,000 to $60,000 for all aspects of fabrication, delivery, and installation. Projects will be exhibited for at least one year.
A mandatory pre-submission meeting is required in November 2007 (November 2 at 1:00 pm or November 8 at 1:00 pm at Denver International Airport). Candidates must attend one of these meetings to be eligible. Submission deadline is November 23, 2007 at 5:00 p.m. MDT. Submit eight digital images, a brief letter of interest (no more than 300 words), and a current resume (no more than 2 pages) through CaFE at www.callforentry.org. Materials must document projects completed in the last three years. Successful candidates will be notified by letter by January 2008. For pre-submission meeting RSVP, call (303) 342-2521.
