About This Call
Denver International Airport (DEN) seeks to commission distinctive, site-specific, original public artworks for its $1.5 billion Concourse Expansion Program. Three unique artwork locations have been identified for this Request for Qualification (RFQ): Concourse A-West, Concourse B-West, and Concourse C-East. A separate RFQ will be released for Concourse B-East. Each site will be awarded to a different artist or artist team.
The selection panel, comprised of community representatives, arts and culture professionals, and civic leaders, will recommend artists or artist teams with a budget range of $800,000 to $2,500,000 USD for each location. This RFQ determines artist eligibility to propose artwork and allows each artist or artist team to rank their preferred location site. If selected, artists will be assigned to one of the project sites to develop a public art proposal. Artist site location preference will be considered, but the selection panel has final decision authority. Artists may only propose for one of the three project sites.
Work sample requirements: 4-6 images (minimum 4, maximum 6), 0-1 audio file, 0-1 video file, for a total of 4-8 samples. Up to 5 applications are allowed per artist. The Concourse Expansion Program is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2022, with artwork installation taking place post-construction. All expansion areas are designed to achieve LEED Gold certification with a focus on sustainable materials and 30% less energy consumption than typical airport facilities.
