About This Call
This project focuses on the Regional Jet Facility located on the east end of the A Gates at Denver International Airport. Constructed in 1994 and expanded in 2000, the facility encompasses a lobby, seating areas, and gates utilized by two airlines serving destinations in Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Utah, Wyoming, South Dakota, and North Dakota.
The project site consists of a series of up to 20 walls scattered throughout the seating and gate areas. The walls are 8 feet tall and vary in width from less than 6 feet to more than 20 feet, constructed of cinder block or framed drywall. Adjacent spaces such as ceilings and floors may be considered in conjunction with the walls. Artists from all geographical areas and all levels of experience are encouraged to apply. Only artists working in two-dimensional and shallow relief media, digital, or multi-media will be reviewed. Sculpture in the round is not eligible.
The three goals of this project are: to improve the environment of the facility so travelers experience a setting of light, color, and texture; to provide a captivating and entertaining environment with viewer interaction; and to create work containing a multi-layered, site-specific narrative. The total contract to be awarded to the artist or artist team will be up to $150,000 depending on the proposal. This amount is inclusive of all costs associated with the project, including the artist's design fee, consultation fees, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, travel, per diem, project documentation, contingency, and any other project-related costs. Work sample requirements: 8 images.
