About This Call
The City of Denver Office of Cultural Affairs seeks artists to create a public art installation for the Pavilion A Lobby at Denver Health, the primary main lobby area of the hospital. The space is approximately 63 feet long and 22 feet wide (1,386 sq. ft.) and is scheduled for remodeling beginning in winter 2010. Artists should consider 2-dimensional artworks, lighting elements, video, glassworks, or other media complementary to the existing space. The Project Selection Panel recommends that artwork be uplifting and reflective of the diverse community, well-integrated within the remodeled lobby space to create a welcoming experience.
The budget for this commission is approximately $40,000, inclusive of all costs including design fee, consultation fees, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, travel, per diem, project documentation, and contingency. Up to four artists or artist teams will be short-listed as semi-finalists and asked to return for an interview or prepare a proposal. Semi-finalists will receive a $500 honorarium to prepare and present proposals in person, though they must cover all proposal expenses including travel and per diem from this amount. The final artist selection will be presented to the Public Art Subcommittee, Denver Commission on Cultural Affairs, and the Mayor for final approval.
Applicants must submit eight digital images of previously completed artworks via the CaFÉ system, along with a statement of interest (2,000 character maximum) and a one- to two-page résumé. Artists working in kinetic, sound, or media formats should also submit a DVD of no more than five minutes. The program is open to all Colorado artists working in any media. Selected artists must enter into a contract with the City and County of Denver and obtain required insurance. A pre-submission meeting and site visit will be held on December 2, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Denver Health – Pavilion A Lobby.
