Denver Health Outpatient Medical Center (OMC) Public Art Commission

The Denver Arts & Venues Public Art Program seeks to commission an artist or team of artists to create a site-specific public art project at the newly constructed Denver Health Outpatient Medical Center (OMC), located at 660 Bannock St., Denver, CO 80204. The artwork must be installed prior to the OMC opening in June 2020. Budget: Approximately $175,000.00 USD. Eligibility: Artists or artist teams residing in the United States.

The art selection panel seeks public artwork(s) to be specifically located on the south side of Level 1 Elevator Lobby, a high-traffic area where visitors will access elevators to reach one of seven floors for medical appointments. The artwork should create a safe and welcoming environment, acting as a "positive distraction" that offers a calming, uplifting, inspiring and safe experience for patients who may be experiencing stress, pain or discomfort. The selection panel is open to two-dimensional, three-dimensional or bas-relief artwork, or artwork suspended from ceiling and/or walls in all media, materials and formats suitable for a medical environment. Artwork must not utilize water, liquids, or materials such as organic fibers prone to holding and transmitting pathogens. All artwork must be durable, able to withstand human touch, and meet ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) regulations.

Applicants will submit six digital images, a résumé, and a statement of interest no longer than 2,000 characters via www.callforentry.org. The selection panel will choose up to five finalists for interviews. If a formal proposal is requested, the artist will receive an honorarium of $2,000 to prepare and present the proposal in person. Finalists will be required to submit a Diversity & Inclusiveness Form. Artists/teams may apply individually or as multi-person collaborative groups. Emerging artists are encouraged to apply.
