About This Call

The City of Denver's Public Art Program seeks to commission a Colorado artist or team of artists to create an original, site-specific outdoor public artwork for the Denver Health Main Campus Plaza. The commission amount is $300,000 USD.

The site is a central plaza at the heart of the Denver Health Medical Center Campus, adjacent to the Denver Health Pavilions. It is a highly visible outdoor area for employees, patients and visitors, with significant pedestrian and vehicle traffic. The selection panel seeks artwork that is inclusive and responsive to the culturally diverse peoples who work at, visit and live near the Denver Health Campus. The panel is looking for artworks that create a calming and engaging experience while honoring the human experience. Lighting will be an important component, with the panel seeking artworks with both daytime and nighttime presence. Artwork in all media and materials suitable for outdoor display will be considered. Artists should be mindful and respectful of the area's functionality, its users, the neighborhood, and Denver Health's mission.

Eligibility is open to artists or artist teams currently residing in Colorado. Emerging artists are encouraged to apply. Applicants must submit six digital images, a résumé, and a statement of interest (no longer than 2,000 characters) via www.callforentry.org. The selection panel will select up to five finalists to create site-specific proposals and participate in interviews. Finalists will receive an honorarium and more specific site information. All applicants must consider long-term conservation and maintenance, as projects will be exposed to weather, physical stresses, and potential vandalism. The budget of $300,000 is inclusive of all costs including design fees, consultation, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and prevailing wage requirements for work on city property. The panel reserves the right to divide the budget if more than one artist is selected.
