About This Call
The Denver Office of Cultural Affairs (DOCA) is seeking 2-D and 3-D artists working in any medium, including fiber and paper, for artwork to be installed in the City Council Conference Room 391 of the Denver City and County Building. The room is approximately 36' x 44' and is where City Council holds its day-to-day business and committee meetings, which are televised live on Denver8 TV. The selected artist(s) will work with the design team on how the artwork will interact with the video and audio for the televised meetings.
Applicants may apply as a single artist or multi-person collaboration. The selection process will short-list up to three semi-finalists, who will receive an honorarium of $300.00 to prepare and present a final proposal in person. Semi-finalists will have the opportunity to visit the site with the design team and meet with City officials and project design team members. The total contract to be awarded is approximately $14,000.00, inclusive of all costs including design fee, consultation fees, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, travel, per diem, project documentation, and contingency.
Applicants must submit eight digital images of previously completed artwork, a résumé, and a letter of interest of no more than 300 words through the CaFÉ online system. All applicants are requested to consider long-term conservation and maintenance of public art, as projects are exposed to weather and subject to vandalism. Semi-finalists are encouraged to consult with a professional conservator prior to final proposal submission. The final recommendation of the Selection Panel will be presented to the Public Art Subcommittee, the Denver Commission on Cultural Affairs, and to Mayor John Hickenlooper for final approval. City Council will also review the selected proposal.
