About This Call
Democracy Under Siege is a juried exhibition exploring how artists engage with contemporary threats to democracy. The exhibition invites artists to consider their creative voice in relation to current political and social challenges, including artistic censorship, democratic discourse, and issues of diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion.
As part of Hera Gallery's 50th anniversary celebration, this exhibition is inspired by the 2003 exhibition American Democracy Under Siege, curated by Claudia Flynn and Troy West. The juror is Lorenzo Fusi, Chief Curator of the Currier Museum. The exhibition runs October 12 - November 16, 2024. Artists will be notified of acceptance by September 9, 2024. Artwork delivery is due by October 3, 2024.
Hera Gallery accepts work in all media, including 2D, 3D, and video. 3D work is limited to 100 lbs and must fit through a 5'10" x 6'8" door; 2D work must also fit through this door. Submissions may include 3-10 total samples (up to 10 images, 6 audio files, and 6 video files). Entry fee is $35 plus a $5 media fee. As an artist-run nonprofit, Hera takes no commission on sales; 100% of sales go directly to the artist. Artists are responsible for return shipping costs and must provide a prepaid return shipping label. Artists are also responsible for their own insurance. Hera Gallery reserves the right to photograph work for publicity purposes.
