About This Call

Delong Park is a neighborhood park in Central Golden located on the southerly side of 23rd Street east of East Street. The park was acquired from a long-standing local family estate to serve an underserved residential area. An abandoned Welch Ditch corridor (prior irrigation facility) runs through the park. The park is used extensively by the immediate neighborhood for passive uses and contemplation, with significant family focus including Golden High School students, children, and pets. It is the only pesticide-free, pollinator-friendly park in Golden's collection, featuring a large area of regional native plants managed by the City in conjunction with an organized volunteer group.

The Public Art Commission seeks a welcoming artistic enhancement that appeals to a broad range of people and is uplifting and stimulating to the spirit, intellect, and physical senses. The artwork should be in harmony with the surrounding area and reflect Golden's heritage and natural setting. Materials must be durable given the anticipated high level of public interaction. Artists should consider the park's neighborhood character, community focus, and pollinator-friendly environment in developing proposals. The PAC reserves the right to require relocation or alteration of the proposed design based on anticipated conflicts or other concerns.

Artwork will be selected on the basis of creativity, artistic merit, technical proficiency, relationship to site and theme, long-term maintenance, durability, and impact on park design and operations. The final location must be approved by both the PAC and the City Parks and Recreation Board. The project budget range is $75,000 including concept design, fabrication, artist fee, travel, installation, and all other project-related expenses. Applications must include at least three images of the proposed artwork, three images of past work, a letter of interest, current artist resume emphasizing public art experience, a timeline for development and installation, and an estimated project budget. The call is open to all artists and artist teams 18 years and older; experience creating public art is preferred. Excluded from participation are Artist Selection Committee members and their families.
