About This Call
Art Works Downtown invites visual artists to submit work featuring or inspired by the enjoyment of food. The exhibit seeks to showcase a wide variety of approaches, explorations, and expressions about this nourishing, critical, and enjoyable aspect of our lives.
Eligibility is limited to San Francisco Bay Area artists only (artist must live within 100 miles from San Rafael, California). The exhibition is open to most subject matter including abstraction and all visual arts media including sculpture. Original artwork only; no giclées or reproductions, though editions are acceptable if they are original works such as printmaking, photography, or limited original digital art. Images of explicit sexual content or violence will not be considered. Artwork must not exceed 72" including frame, stand, and all materials. Video artists must include dimensions of equipment in submission and supply all equipment—including headphones—for the exhibition; projections are prohibited. Actual organic material (like food) must be completely encased and odorless. Submissions must not have previously exhibited in the AWD 1337 Gallery. Entry fee is $40.00 (AWD Artist Members receive a 50% discount). Submit 1-3 work samples (images and/or videos) through CallForEntry.org by March 9, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MST.
Notification by email will be sent March 15. Accepted entries must be hand-delivered to Art Works Downtown, 1337 Fourth St., San Rafael between April 2-6, 1-8pm. The exhibition runs April 7–May 20, 2023, with public visiting hours Thursday–Saturday, 1–8pm. Opening reception is April 14, 5–8pm; second reception is May 12, 5–8pm. Artists may pick up unsold artwork May 25–27, 1–8pm. Art Works Downtown accepts a 40% donation upon sale. Artists who do not retrieve their work will be charged a storage fee of $5.00 per day; works remaining after 30 days become property of Art Works Downtown. Juror: Julie Zener, owner and director of Julie Zener Gallery, Mill Valley CA.
