About This Call

Defining Beauty is an open call museum exhibition program providing artists an avenue to reach new audiences through a curated exhibition. The exhibition will feature three to five artists, with each displaying at least three works. CMATO will create an online catalogue including essays on the artists and their works, and the exhibition will be presented on CMATO's website.

Eligibility is open to artists worldwide, 18 years old or older, at any stage of their career. All mediums are accepted, including video and installation. All entries must represent original works of art. Applicants must submit a minimum of 3 samples and a maximum of 5 samples (images, audio, or video). Entry fee is $35 USD ($15 for Conejo Valley Residents with CVRA coupon code), with an additional $5 USD per sample beyond the minimum. All fees are non-refundable.

Awards: Featured Artist receives $1,000 USD; Contributing Artists receive $500 USD each. Application deadline is March 12, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Notification of acceptance is March 25, 2020. The exhibition opens May 7, 2020 and concludes August 23, 2020. Artists are responsible for shipping to and from the museum and are highly recommended to insure work in transit. Contact: Lynn Farrand, Sr. Curator, [email protected], 805.405.5240.
