About This Call

The City of Deerfield Beach will commission up to three artists/entities for the design and installation of up to three separate wall murals located throughout the city. The City of Deerfield Beach will celebrate its 100th anniversary on June 25, 2025, and is seeking murals that show the history of the city over this time. Artists may focus on the city's history, its people, historic landmarks, geography, natural and built environment, or events that occurred over the one-hundred-year span that are relative to the City's experience. Murals may be created in whatever style the artist sees best fit.

The prime location for mural installation will be the South-East wall at the Dr. Leo G. Robb Gymnasium located at 435 SW 2nd Street. Additional locations may be considered for the east or north wall of the Dr. Leo G. Robb Gymnasium, the east wall of the Highlands Park center located at 553 NE 44th Street, or the west portion of the Fire Station 102 metal building facing I-95 at 1345 SW 11th Way. All murals must be complete and ready for public display three months after the date of contract signing.

Applicants must submit a digital mural design with written description, materials list, artist bio, examples of previous work, and itemized budget. At least one image/video of the proposed work and one of past work are required. Long-term mural maintenance instructions are encouraged. Artists may apply for different murals at multiple locations but will not be awarded more than one location. Proof of general liability insurance naming the City as an additional insured, worker's compensation insurance or Florida Workers' Compensation exemption, and automobile liability insurance (if applicable) are required. The City has appropriated $40,000 for all mural installation(s). The total number of murals and allocation for any selected murals will be determined after final submittal and selection. Artists who are immediate family or business partners of Public Art Committee members or City Staff are not eligible.
