About This Call
The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) announces the Chicago Cultural Center Studio Artist and Curatorial Residency Program for professional and emerging Chicago-based artists and curators over 18 years of age at all career levels. The program aims to support Chicago's artists and curators in their creative process and to increase the diversity of expression and representation in the larger artistic community.
Through a competitive review process, DCASE will award eight residency opportunities across four categories: Category 1 - Artist in Residence - Private Studio (3 awards) provides support for practicing artists in a private studio shared by up to 2 artists, with expectations to provide at least one public interaction opportunity per month; Category 2 - Artist in Residence - Public Studio (3 awards) is ideal for individual artists or teams engaging the public at the Chicago Cultural Center; Category 3 - Curatorial Fellow - Exhibitions (1 award) includes a stipend, workspace, and the opportunity to prepare an exhibition of Artists in Residence work in Spring 2017; Category 4 - Curatorial Fellow - Art Criticism (1 award) includes a stipend, workspace, and the opportunity to create written documentation supporting the visibility of the program. Each individual may only apply for one residency category per year. All residents are expected to participate quarterly in studio visits, critiques, and salons, and participate in a group exhibition organized by staff and curatorial fellows.
Work sample requirements: 1-10 images, 0-1 audio file, 0-1 video file (1-10 total samples). Application deadline: May 30, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Application assistance workshops are held at various Chicago locations. Applicants must be Chicago-based. This program is supported by a grant from The Joyce Foundation.
