About This Call
The Dayton Visual Arts Center is accepting exhibition proposals for four to six exhibitions during the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 seasons, including one large solo show each year by a member artist. Two to four exhibitions will be scheduled for the annual REACH Across Dayton collaboration with Sinclair Community College during winter/early spring 2016 and 2017. REACH (Realizing Ethnic Awareness and Cultural Heritage) Across Dayton exhibits explore synergies between diverse cultures as expressed in the arts and humanities, with additional activities including a studies conference and workshops.
The gallery is approximately 1,800 square feet with up to 200 feet of running wall space, including three moveable walls. The ceiling is 16 feet high with 50 feet of wall space at that height; remaining walls are 10 feet high. Natural light enters through storefront windows with west exposure. Exhibitions generally run between four and seven weeks. The space is flexible and appropriate for large pieces and site-specific installations, though there may be limitations on 3-D work due to the multipurpose nature of the space.
A three-person jury will review images; recommendations go to the programs and exhibitions committee, who then consider full proposals. Although DVAC is member-based, non-members are encouraged to apply. There is no geographic limit for applicants. The Center budgets for basic installation, an opening reception, and direct mail publications. Additional expenses require advance Board approval. DVAC insures work during exhibition but not during transit. The gallery commission is 40 percent. Selected proposals receive a modest stipend, an illustrated color brochure with critical essay, digital documentation, and an opportunity for the exhibition to travel to additional venues throughout Ohio. Entry fee is $30; this fee is waived for the first application from current DVAC members. Submit 5-10 images and up to 3 videos. Rolling deadline with all entries received by midnight Pacific Standard Time on September 1, 2014 reviewed.
