Davie Horse Shoe Bike Rack Project

The Town of Davie is commissioning an artist for a work for hire creating functional artistic bike racks to be located at Bamford Sports Complex. The bike racks must be equestrian themed, with designs resembling horses or horseshoes encouraged. The selected artist will be responsible for the design, fabrication, and installation of two sets of bike racks. All final work installed shall become the property of the Town, which will own the copyright to the design with the ability to fabricate at a future time.

Designs must be new and original, self-service with no operating costs, and code compliant to withstand South Florida weather conditions and wind load requirements. Bike racks must be fabricated using durable materials suitable for outdoor installation with little or no maintenance for at least 20 years, with no dangerous surfaces or materials. Racks must enable the frame and one wheel of a bicycle to be secured with a standard U-lock. Color may be incorporated via powder coat surface finish or paint system specified for exterior use. One bike rack will be located outside the Fitness & Aquatic Center and one at the Multipurpose Center, both at Bamford Sports Park, 3801 South Pine Island Road.

The project budget is $8,000.00, which includes all insurance, taxes, fees, permits, engineering costs, delivery, and installation. Artists must submit a resume, artist statement regarding approach to the project, and examples of past artworks similar to this project (minimum 3, maximum 5). An optional design sketch may be included. Three artists may be shortlisted and paid an honorarium of $200.00 each. Shortlisted artists will be required to submit detailed design proposals including mock images and a budget list. The project is open to all professional artists nationwide. Artists are not eligible if they are Town of Davie staff or immediate family or business partners of members of the Public Art Advisory Committee or program staff.
