About This Call

The David Brower Center invites Bay Area artists to submit work for "hello tomorrow: Bay Area Artists Envision the Future," a juried exhibition at the Hazel Wolf Gallery. The exhibition explores the intersection between art and activism, responding to David Brower's quote: "Have a good time saving the world. Otherwise, you're just going to depress yourself."

Eligibility: Artists 18 years of age or older residing in the San Francisco Bay Area (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano and Sonoma Counties). Entry is free. Submit up to 3 images per artist through CaFÉ, along with an image list (title, date, medium, dimensions, retail value), a maximum 1000-character artist statement addressing the theme, and a resume or CV (maximum 2 pages). Deadline: April 25, 2011.

Exhibition Details: The show runs June 16 – September 2, 2011 at Hazel Wolf Gallery, 2150 Allston Way, Berkeley, CA. Artwork must be wall-mounted, existing works preferred, between 24" and 72" wide, and no more than 12" deep. Artists deliver work Friday June 10, 2011 between 9:30 AM and 12 PM and pick up Wednesday September 7, 2011 between 9:30 AM and 5 PM. Artworks may be offered for sale; the Center retains a 20% commission on sold works. Jurors: Lucinda Barnes (Berkeley Art Museum), DeWitt Cheng (freelance art writer), and Amy Tobin (David Brower Center Executive Director). For questions, contact Julene Freitas at 510-809-0900 x116 or [email protected].
