Dance: An Esther Rolle Inspired Exhibition

The Ali Cultural Arts Center at the City of Pompano Beach invites artists nationwide to submit original artworks celebrating Esther Rolle's participation in the dance artform. Esther Rolle, a celebrated Pompano Beach-born actress, was a member of the Shogola Oloba dance troop created and led by master Asadata Dafora while living in New York City, and became its director in 1960. Selected artworks will be exhibited at the Ali Cultural Arts Center from October 29, 2021 through February 9, 2022.

Submit up to three digital images via callforentry.org with a $10 submission fee. Images must be in JPG format, no larger than 5MB, named with your name and artwork title (example: smith_jane_title.jpg). Entries must be original works completed within the last ten years and must not exceed 50 inches in any dimension. All two-dimensional work must be ready-to-hang. The submission deadline is August 6, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Artists will be notified of acceptance by September 10, 2021, with a shipping/delivery deadline of October 22, 2021.

Artists are responsible for round-trip shipping and insurance during transport. Work must be shipped prepaid in sturdy, reusable packing via UPS or FED EX with a prepaid return label included. Work may also be delivered in person. Artists selected will receive a 70% commission on artwork sold. No substitution, exchange, modification, or withdrawal of works is permitted after acceptance.
