About This Call
This national exhibition is the kickoff for Wearable Arts Festival 2016 hosted by the D'Art Center non-profit organization in Norfolk, Virginia. The Wearable Arts Festival is an annual month-long series of events in April highlighting unconventional and unique materials and processes in the creation of wearable art. The exhibition calls for all 3D artists to submit work that blends techniques, materials, and ideas through wearable art. Jewelry, headdresses, masks, separates, and full costumes are welcome.
The exhibition runs April 2-22, 2016, with a reception on Saturday, April 2, 6pm-8pm. Submissions are due Friday, February 19, 2016, with notifications on Monday, March 7, 2016. The entry fee is $35.00 for up to 4 works. Accepted works must arrive by Monday, March 21, 2016.
Eligibility is open to all artists residing in the United States. Artists 18 and younger are eligible for student award only. All work must be original and created without the aid of an instructor or kit. All artworks must be "wearable" and made using unconventional or unique materials or processes. Works must not exceed 4 feet in any direction and must not exceed 30 lbs. Any work requiring unconventional display or installation must arrive with clear instructions. Displays other than pedestals, wall space, or standard mannequin busts must be provided by the artist. Complicated installations or work that includes perishable material will not be considered. Collaborative works are accepted with each artist noted on the entry application, and awards will be distributed equally among collaborators. The artist is responsible for shipping costs to and from the gallery. Works must have prearranged call tags through FedEx or UPS to be returned.
