About This Call
The City of Pompano Beach is commissioning two South Florida artists for a work-for-hire project to design and fabricate painted Pompano fish sculptures. The pompano fish is the City's namesake and symbol of Pompano Beach identity. Once completed, the sculptures will be placed at the entryway of Cypress Bend at Powerline Road on Cypress Beach Drive and in George Brummer Park. The sculptures should represent colorful native flora and must have a UV Resistant Coating applied if paint is used.
Artists may submit up to three designs for consideration. Selected artists will each receive a prefabricated fish (5' tall, approximately 3' wide, constructed of foam with three coats of polyurethane and primed with Zinsser bulls eye primer white). Artists must provide their own workspace and have 30 days to complete the artwork once the Agreement is executed. Selected artists will each be paid $1,500 upon completion and approval. Artists are responsible for pickup and delivery of the sculpture. The City will manage installation; however, artists should be available for any touch-up work required during the exhibit.
Designs must be submitted on the provided template through CaFE and include design on both sides A and B with a materials list. Submissions must include an artist statement, examples of previous artwork (minimum and maximum 3 images), and completed design templates. Designs will be evaluated based on design quality, artist statement, previous artwork examples, and materials to be used. Designs that are religious, political, or sexual in nature will not be accepted. The structure may not display text, words, alpha-numeric characters, corporate logos, or advertising. The project is open to all artists (professional and amateur) located in Palm Beach County, Broward County, or Dade County, Florida. Artists who are immediate family or business partners of Public Art Committee members or program staff are not eligible. Contact Laura Atria, Public Art Program Manager, at 954-545-7800 ext. 3813 or [email protected] for questions.
