About This Call
The Art in Public Places Program (AIPP) of New Mexico Arts (NMA) and Parallel Studios seek artists or artist teams to create outdoor new media installations and/or architectural mapping installations as temporary commissioned projects in the Santa Fe Railyard Plaza for the opening weekend of the 2016 Currents New Media Festival (June 10-12, 2016). Proposed artworks should be outdoor new media installations or architectural mapping, and can include projections, mapping, sculpture, or constructed environments. Submissions can be interactive or non-interactive, and work can be designed for daylight or evening presentation. Installation can begin Wednesday, June 8 and must be completely dismantled and removed by Monday, June 13. Media must be low maintenance, safe for children and adults, ADA compliant, and not leave a permanent mark on the environment when removed. No large holes may be dug or foreign organic materials released into the environment. Artwork must be sufficiently secured against high winds and intense weather conditions.
Project proposals must include a permanent piece of artwork related to the installation to be displayed as part of the New Mexico Arts Permanent collection and must meet all permanent collection requirements. Up to $5,000 is available per project, covering all fees and expenses including materials, equipment, labor, permits, engineering documents, insurance, taxes, travel, installation, shipping, administrative costs, identification plaque, and documentation. Artists are responsible for providing their own medical or workers' compensation insurance. A security guard will be present from 11pm to 8am on Friday and Saturday nights. Artists understand their artwork may be subject to damage, vandalism, or theft.
This call is open to all artists or artist teams in all stages of their careers. Submissions must include a detailed project proposal with equipment list, installation floor plan, project budget, current resume or curriculum vitae demonstrating relevant work experience, three to four images of proposed or previously completed work, and up to three videos. Complete image and video citations are required, including artwork title, medium, dimensions, price or value, year of completion, and project description with budget and commissioning agency. Submission deadline is March 1, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Grant awardees will be announced March 31, 2016.
