About This Call

Current Threads 2026 is a travelling exhibition highlighting the work of Surface Design Association members in the British Columbia and Yukon region. The exhibition features fibre and textile art and aims to inspire conversations and new directions while raising the visibility of fibre and textile media. The exhibition will be displayed at the MAIN Gallery in the Cowichan Community Centre in Duncan, BC from July 6-31, 2026, with a reception on July 6. It will then travel to Il Museo Gallery at the Italian Cultural Centre in Vancouver, BC from September 3 to October 31, 2026, with a reception on September 3.

This non-juried exhibition is open to SDA members living in British Columbia or Yukon with current and good standing membership. Artists may submit one artwork completed on or after July 6, 2023. Artwork previously exhibited at a VISDA exhibition or at the Cowichan Community Centre is not eligible. The $90 entry fee covers both exhibition locations and is non-refundable. Submissions are accepted online from January 15 to March 31, 2026 (PST). Artists are responsible for delivering their artwork and must provide an artist statement (100-150 words), biography (100-150 words), one headshot, and three photos of the artwork (one full view and two details). All photos must be at least 1920 pixels on the longest side in JPG format with a maximum file size of 4MB.

Artwork must be ready to hang and meet specific dimension requirements: 2D wall-hung pieces maximum 84" high x 72" wide; 3D work maximum 48" wide x 48" deep with 84" maximum height. Suspended work requires prior approval and has a maximum weight of 10 pounds. Sales are subject to a 25% gallery commission at the Cowichan Community Centre and 10% at Il Museo. An SDA Award of Excellence will be presented. Artwork will be stored between shows and available for pickup after the Vancouver show closes on October 31, 2026.
