Curiously Gorey

"Curiously Gorey" is an exhibition inspired by the eccentric charm and dark whimsy of Edward Gorey. The exhibition invites artists of all media to honor the peculiar brilliance of Edward Gorey—his meticulous draftsmanship, mordant wit, and gift for transforming the ordinary into the delightfully unsettling. Artists may draw inspiration from his precision of line, his stage-like compositions, or his unsettling narratives that linger between humor and discomfort. Submissions should embody the same exquisite tension that makes Gorey's world so curiously irresistible. This exhibit is in generous collaboration with the Edward Gorey House.

The exhibition is open to artists worldwide, both amateur and professional. Work must have been produced within the last five years. Work that is copied or done under the guidance of an instructor is not eligible. All styles and aesthetics are considered, and content should be appropriate for all viewers. Submit 1-20 JPEG images at 1,200 pixels or greater on the longest side, with a maximum file size of 5 MB. Entry fee is $25 for the first entry and $5 for each additional entry (up to 20 total). Payment is non-refundable and does not guarantee acceptance.

The show runs from March 3–28, 2026. JPEGs are due by February 18, 2026. Notification of acceptance will be sent by February 20, 2026. Local drop-off of work is Monday, March 2, 2026, between 9am-noon. Work being shipped must arrive by January 30, 2026. The opening reception is Friday, March 6, 5–7pm, 2026. Unsold work can be picked up Monday, March 30, 2026, between 9am-noon, or shipped the week of March 30, 2026. Works not picked up within one month of the exhibition's end become property of the Center. The Cultural Center charges a 30% commission on sales for members and 40% for non-members. Artists are responsible for all shipping costs and must provide pre-paid return labels. The Center's insurance does not cover damage during shipping; artists should insure their own work.
