About This Call

Clayworks, the fourth largest non-profit ceramic teaching facility in the United States, is dedicated to the promotion of ceramic arts, advancement of artists and students, and enrichment of the communities it serves. Clayworks seeks applicants for Cups in Common, an exhibition celebrating the ceramic mug. The exhibition will run October 12 – November 11, 2017. Selected applicants will have the opportunity to exhibit in Clayworks Gallery alongside a small group of nationally-recognized artists invited to participate by Clayworks, including Sunshine Cobb, Leah Leitson, Joe Molinaro, Lindsay Oesterritter and Amelia Stamps among others. The exhibition juror is Linda Arbuckle, well-known majolica artist and professor emerita of ceramics at University of Florida, Gainesville, FL. All works will be for sale and the exhibition will close with Clayworks' annual fundraiser, a single night drawing hundreds of visitors from Charlotte and surrounding areas.

This competition is open to all artists over the age of 18 working in ceramic media in the continental US. Entry fee is $25 USD. You may enter three submissions. Works submitted may be individual mugs or sets. You may include two views or details per artwork. All works must be original artworks made by the applicant, completed in the past two years, and not previously been exhibited at Clayworks. All artworks must be ceramic and for sale. Retail price must be declared at time of submission and may not be altered. Clayworks will take 50% commission on all sales; artists may choose to donate their commission.

Notification of acceptance will be Friday, September 15, 2017. Delivery of accepted artwork is due Wednesday, October 1, 2017. Artists are responsible for all shipping, delivery, and insurance costs for accepted artworks to and from the exhibition venue. Artwork shipped/picked up will be Monday, November 27, 2017. Accepted works may not be withdrawn prior to the close of the exhibition.
