About This Call
Cultural Currents is a collaborative initiative between the City of Eugene, Lane Arts Council, and community partners to strengthen multicultural hubs, programming and experiences in Eugene. The project will manifest in temporary art installations unveiled during Visual Arts Week, October 6-14, 2023, with installations occurring at the end of September. Cultural Currents is funded by The National Endowment for the Arts Our Town grant.
The initiative invites artists, artist collectives and arts organizations to create temporary public art installations that utilize arts and storytelling to advance representation and narratives that have been historically excluded, misrepresented and/or marginalized in Eugene. Artists who identify as Black, Indigenous, Asian American, Pacific Islander, Native Hawaiian, Latino/a/x/e, LGTBQIA+ and those with intersecting identities are strongly encouraged to apply.
Five categories are available: (I) Exterior Sculptures—2 artists selected, $2,000 each, at Hult Center entrance; (II) Pole Banners Visual Art Series—1 artist selected, $1,500, across 5th Street and Downtown Riverfront Park path; (III) Interior Wall 2-Dimensional Artwork—1 artist selected, $1,000, interior wall of Farmers Market; (IV) Spoken Word, Music and/or Sound Artworks—3 artists selected, $1,500 each, at alley from Willamette to Park Street and Farmer's Market Pavilion; (V) Projections—2 artists selected, $1,500 each, at Riverfront Park Pavilion and Farmer's Market Pavilion. Applicants may submit one application per category if applying for more than one opportunity. Work samples may include up to 10 images, 4 audio files, 4 video files, for a maximum of 18 total samples. An informational session and application assistance via Zoom will be held Monday, April 3, 2023, from 4:00pm-5:00pm.
