About This Call
The Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville, Art in Public Places and the City of Jacksonville, Florida are soliciting artists for a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the Cuba Hunter Park Neighborhood Public Art Project. Individual artists or artist teams may apply to address one or more prospective park sites including the park entrance from Emerson Street, Community Center/Gymnasium entrances, roundabout, Wetland Nature Trail, Green/Gazebo area, and pedestrian pathways. Artists are encouraged to explore ways to address public health and social engagement through wayfinding elements and public art with renewable materials and innovative design incorporating kinetic, light, and sound technologies. For environmental 3-D sculpture, preference will be given to artwork that incorporates lighting or luminescent elements and/or media arts, sound art, or other digital interactive art. Jacksonville is interested in eco-friendly, forward-thinking aesthetic designs that find solutions to environmental concerns, such as incorporating solar-powered lighting.
The artwork budget is $40,866 for design, fabrication, and installation. This is a national call open to experienced local, regional, and national artists or artist teams. Applicants must submit images of prior work (minimum 4, maximum 8 images; up to 1 audio file and 2 video files), letter of interest, biography, artist statement, and resume with references. Artists are not expected to produce proposals prior to selection and awarding. Following selection, the artist or artist team will be invited to Jacksonville for required site visits and design team meetings. A conservator team will review design proposals, and the Art Selection Panel will make recommendations to the Art in Public Places Committee for final approval. Artists are expected to be present for delivery and installation of the artworks.
Eligibility is open to artists or artist teams of appropriate status recognized by art professionals as artists of serious intent and recognized ability. Applicants must not be members of the project architectural, engineering, or design team, the Art in Public Places Committee, Art Selection Panel, or Cultural Council Board or their respective staffs. The budget covers design, materials, fabrication, delivery, installation, integrated lighting elements, electrical designs and engineering certification, surface preparation, traffic mitigation, subcontractors, one-year warranties against defect, and travel and accommodation expenses for collaboration meetings and installation in Jacksonville, Florida.
