About This Call
Crosscurrents 2023 is an exhibition open to visual artists 18 years and older residing in West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Maryland, and Virginia. Artists may submit up to 3 two-dimensional works completed within the last calendar year that have not been previously exhibited at the Stifel Fine Arts Center. Works done in a class or under the instruction of an artist/teacher are not eligible. The entry fee is $30 (nonrefundable), and submissions must be completed online through CaFÈ by May 1, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Applicants must submit high-resolution images (300 dpi) for the jury process.
All two-dimensional works must be properly framed with wire for hanging attached securely to the back; sawtooth hangers are not accepted. Work must not exceed 40 inches in any direction. Framed works larger than 24 x 30 inches must use plexiglass instead of single pane glass. The Stifel Fine Arts Center offers framing services; contact Brad Johnson at [email protected] or 304-242-7700 for pricing. No installations will be accepted. Drop-off dates for accepted works are June 1-3, and shipped works are accepted May 29 – June 3 (shipping costs are the artist's responsibility, and a return shipping label must be included). The exhibition runs June 8 – July 28, with an opening reception on June 8. Juror notifications will be emailed the week of May 15. Pick-up dates for unsold work are August 3-5. Works left at the center more than 30 days past the pick-up dates become the property of Stifel Fine Arts Center.
The 2023 juror is Kim Freithaler, an award-winning painter and Executive Director of the North Hills Art Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from St. John's University and has studied at the Art Students League in Manhattan. Her work is viewable at kimfreithaler.com and facebook.com/kimfreithalerportraits.
