About This Call
The Public Art Program of the City of Dallas Office of Arts & Culture requests submissions from artists or artist teams to design, fabricate, and install a work of public art at Crockett Dog Park, located at 501 Carroll Avenue, Dallas, TX 75246 at the intersections of Carroll Avenue and Victor Street in Council District 2. Public art designs (3D) will depict canine themes and be located between the designated areas for large and small dogs. The park sits within walking distance of the Downtown Medical District and is surrounded by several historic neighborhoods in old East Dallas.
The project budget is $200,000, with a mandatory 20% contingency fee ($40,000) held as part of the contract budget for unforeseen costs. The entire budget amount is available with a written request for release of contingency fee from the artist(s). Artwork must be highly visible, require little or no maintenance, be free of safety hazards, complement the canine theme, and include no lighting. The Artist Selection panel will review qualified submissions and identify up to three artists or artist-teams to develop site-specific concept designs. Shortlisted artists will receive a $1,500 stipend to cover costs of site visits, community meetings, site research, concept production, and presentation to the selection panel. Shortlisted artists must submit drawings, digital renderings, or maquettes with a draft budget demonstrating all artwork phases can be completed within budget, plus an estimated maintenance plan and costs.
Eligible applicants are professional artists with a demonstrated record of successful completion of artwork at similar cost and scale. Ineligible: artists or consultants currently under contract with the City of Dallas Public Art Program, City of Dallas employees and their spouses, members of the Public Art Committee, undergraduate students, and minors. Dallas and Texas artists are strongly encouraged to apply. Submission materials required: current professional resume, six images of previous projects with similar budgets (including title, date, location, materials, dimensions, budget, and commissioning entity), letter of interest, and three professional references.
